6 reasons why Cardiff is the perfect destination for family fun
Cardiff is an ideal choice for family vacations. If you’re heading to St. David’s country and bringing the kids, here’s how to make sure you have a great time and they may even learn something while they’re at it.
There’s enough going on in Cardiff to keep your kids busy every day of the week, so ditch the shopping and cinema trips in favor of high-octane sports, adorable animal encounters and enchanting educational exhibitions. Discover these 6 family activities in Cardiff that is waiting for you and your family:
1. Cefn Mably Farm Park
It’s hard to find a definitive ranking of petting zoos, but the all-weather Cefn Mably Farm Park must be a strong contender for the number one spot. Ticking off every requirement from pony rides to cuddles with cute rabbits, you can also buy bags of food to feed to the animals, before enjoying your own bite to eat in the bistro. There are indoor and outdoor play parks, with a special area for the under-4s, making it a great choice if the weather’s looking a little typically British.
2. Ski Cardiff
Who needs the Alps? Ski Cardiff offers all the fun of a mountain holiday, just without the…err, mountains. Little ones can spend an afternoon learning to ski or snowboard on the 100 m slope, or go for the slightly less skilled option of hurling themselves downhill in a giant rubber ring. It’s called tubing and it’s every bit as childishly, brilliantly fun as it sounds, even if you’re an adult. The center is conveniently located right in the middle of Cardiff, just 20 minutes’ drive from our Park Inn by Radisson Cardiff City Centre.
3. Boulders Climbing
Boulders indoor climbing center is a great choice for families with energetic kids happy. The Pebbles soft play area is filled with cargo nets for the little ones to clamber through, while older members of the family can take their pick from a whole range of classes and sessions, divided by their suitability for 7-13-year-olds, 14-18-year-olds and over-18s.
4. Parc All Weather Play
Come rain or shine, your kids can quickly burn off their energy at this at Parc all weather play center. While they run riot over wooden climbing frames, timber forts, zip wires, slides and a pirate ship, you can make the most of the café or set up your own picnic in the grounds.
5. Cardiff International White Water
Pile the whole family into a six-person raft and set off downstream on Cardiff International White Water’s fantastic artificial course, designed to expertly recreate a white water experience without the white knuckles. Suitable for over-8s, the water level and speed of the rapids are reduced to provide a “chilled out” session, although if you’re all over 12, you can tackle the real deal with a full-speed ride.
This futuristic glass building on Cardiff Bay brings science to life with mind-boggling physics games, interactive exhibitions and a digital planetarium. In addition to all the permanent exhibits, Techniquest boasts regular themed shows and events like Don’t Do This At Home, featuring action-packed experiments showing exactly why you shouldn’t put metal in a microwave or try building a homemade bazooka.
