Don’t go just yet, we are about to reveal Germany’s top city picnic spots. And as we all know, location is everything, so finding the perfect spot will make your relaxing picnic one of the highlights of your summer city break.

Tempelhof Field in Berlin

Going, going, gone……to Tempelhof. A picnic at an airport? Don’t worry, it closed in May 2012. And ever since, the 300-hectare airport area with the big departure hall still intact has been open to city-dwellers and visitors alike. The area has become a multi-use park just full of a special, edgy charm. The hangars nearby provide a unique backdrop for a very special picnic. Don’t forget to bring along your kite and a breeze to go with it. The wide, green open spaces are perfect for that kind of fun in the sun. So, pack your bags and head for Berlin and check in to one of our Park Inn by Radisson Hotels and then head out to the park for a lovely German picnic.

Königsufer on the River Elbe in Dresden

On the banks of the Elbe, across from the Brühlschen Terrassen, all you need to achieve happiness is a picnic blanket to lay on the grass, a well-stocked picnic basket and a view of the river. This area between the Augustus and Carola bridges is famous for its amazing outdoor summer film nights or the Augustus garden, the biggest beer garden around. All this is right on the river near the old city. Although the meadows are sometimes a bit busy, the view is simply fantastic. Unfortunately, barbecues aren’t allowed here. To do that you’ll have to walk a few meters up the river.  Then, after spending a day outdoors having summer fun, check into the Park Inn by Radisson Dresden and relax.

Ostpark in Frankfurt am Main

Frankfurt’s first public park was built in 1911, and was designated a national monument in 1986. Today, the park is a popular spot and known as a peaceful oasis for simply relaxing or playying some summer sports. The park lake, which is about 4.2 hectares big, is not only a paradise for swans, geese, ducks and lots of other kinds of aquatic birds, it’s also the perfect background for a relaxing picnic. There’s lots to do, for example, there are barbecue areas, a small kiosk selling treats and even showers.  Don’t forget to explore the learning garden featuring bamboo thickets, kitchen and medicinal herbs, a circular path with wooden bridges, overhanging trees and even a maze. The best thing of all? It’s only a short drive into town from Ostpark to Park Inn by Radisson Frankfurt Airport.
