Run Up Berlin

770 steps. 39 floors. 128 meters. That’s what faced our competitors in this year’s Run Up Berlin event. The annual competition, held on German Unity Day, sees entrants run to the top of our Park Inn by Radisson Alexanderplatz Hotel in the quickest time possible! What we should make clear, is our hotel is Berlin’s tallest residential building!

King and Queen of the Sky 2015

In 2015, the competition drew over 100 participants from four different countries, all looking to be crowned Berlin’s ‘King and Queen of the Sky’. Internationally known stairrunner, Thomas Dold, launched proceedings with an inspirational video to get the runners ready to take on this most gruelling of challenges. Thomas ran the 39 floors in a staggering 3 minutes 14 seconds to be crowned the winner in 2014.

At the Run Up Berlin 2015, the first runner hit our hotel’s 770 steps at 11:00am, with 30 second intervals between each new participant. Representing Park Inn by Radisson, our very own Andreas Neininger, assistant general manager of the Alexanderplatz hotel, was part of a second group of runners who began their ascent at 11:45am. Andreas had been training for number of months to perfect his stair climbing technique for the competition and achieved a respectable 56th place competing against some of the world’s leading stairrunners.

Run Up Berlin 2015

The ‘King of the Sky’ was Jan Fiebig who accomplished a staggering time of 3 minutes 41 seconds to reach the top. Sylvia Jacobs also became the coveted ‘Queen of the Sky’ with an impressive time of 4 minutes and 40 seconds. In the team event, each squad has three members with their times combined to give a final result.  Jan Fiebig’s team, Towerrunning Germany, were clear winners, with fellow squad members Ralf Hascher and Jana Kasper combining to run the stairs in just 12 minutes 43 seconds.

Don`t miss the upcoming event!

Well done to all the runners who took part the previous years, we don’t envy you and we can’t wait to see you all again this year. Run Up Berlin 2017 will take place at the Park Inn by Radisson Berlin Alexanderplatz on Saturday 30th September.
