Pride in Amsterdam

A city without a curfew, a penchant for parties, and the capital of the first country to legalize same-sex marriage, Amsterdam is an unmissable destination when the Pride Parade comes to town. Pride takes place across two weekends (27 July – 4 August) and has over 170 events in the run-up to the grand finale: Canal Pride. Read on for an inside guide on where to celebrate this colorful city, from the most stylish, feel-good hotels to the hottest parties.

And remember, the Park Inn by Radisson Amsterdam City West is close to the center and welcomes you.

Pride Parties

There are so many parties and events during Pride that there’s already a list… and it’s still being added to. The first event that kicks off Pride is Milkshake Festival. A two day outdoor dance festival with six stages and loads of DJs. Taking place at Westerpark Amsterdam, it’s easily accessible by tram, bus or bike. Other parties include the Pride Reality street party. A Caribbean style party outside bar Reality – that’ll make you shake a colorful tail feather. Or perhaps the Funhousea very popular gay dance scene in an old industrial factory hall. The dancers will be in crazy costumes. Will you?

Canal Parades

If you’re a city with canals, you might as well use them! The Pride Canal Parade is the highlight of Pride. 80 boats, decorated in amazing ways sail along the Prinsengracht to Westerdok. Thousands of people get there early to grab the best spot. And if you’re very lucky, you might be invited onto a passing boat for a dance!

Want to get a good spot to watch the boats? Try Prinsengracht, Magere Brug on Amstel river or the Eenhoornsluis at the end of the route. After the Parade, go to the after party! Head over to Amstelveld (which is next to the boat route) to show off your moves.

Extraordinary Events

Show your support, love and acceptance by attending the Pride Walk on the first day of Pride Amsterdam. As well as speeches, there is a walk from Homomonument to Vondelpark. It’s an important part of the event and the atmosphere is incredible.

Miss Vanjie wouldn’t get a look in, but you can go and experience the Pride Drag Queen Olympics. They’re hilarious, fabulous and held at the Homomonument. Featuring a handbag throw, 100m stiletto sprint and tug-of-war, you’ll see Queens from all corners of the globe compete.

…Just remember to turn up purse first, darling.

A city of Love

Amsterdam shows the world that it is the real city of love during Pride. The size of the parties. The number of people. And the amount of bars and clubs that open their doors and streets for the events is incredible. So many buildings are adorned with rainbows and everyone is in high-spirits. It’s definitely a place you should visit.

If you are thinking of attending the best event of the year, then remember that thousands of others are too. Places book up fast, especially those close to the action. Remember that the Park Inn by Radisson, Amsterdam City West is close by and super easy to book. Wanting to visit Pride as part of a stopover? Then stay at the Park Inn by Radisson Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. There’s a free shuttle that takes you from the hotel to the airport. And there’s a train that takes you from the airport straight to the city center.

Want to attend another Pride? Check out Manchester’s Pride in late August. We hope to see you there!
