Manchester Pride – The Big Weekend
Ready for a big weekend out? Of course you are! And there is no bigger party than Manchester Pride’s The Big Weekend’. We hope you are ready for the time of your life.
August 23 to 26 is going to be a weekend you don’t want to miss. Manchester Pride is taking over the Gay Village neighborhood, putting on a party like there is no tomorrow with their Big Weekend. Haven’t decided if you’re going yet? Then CEO Mark Fletcher is ready to convince you.
“Manchester Pride is a brilliant experience! The Big Weekend really does grip the city and there is a warm and friendly atmosphere wherever you go”, he tells us.
Get ready for a gay old time
We’re not size queens but bigger is usually better and the Big Weekend is going to be one of the highlights of the year in Manchester. With concerts by Rita Ora, Alexandra Burke, Sigala plus many more, you are in for a treat. You can also head to the EXPO to meet the various businesses, organisations, charities and more serving the LGBT community.
“We strive to make the event cater for many different tastes each year but we might have a couple of surprises ready for this year as well,” Fletcher reveals.
Another highlight of the festival is the Pride Parade, showing the diverse LGBT community. This year’s parade theme is ‘Once Upon a Time’ and is both a tribute and a way of looking forward.
“As we reflect upon the years gone by in our wonderful city, we recognize many stories, moments, events and occasions that have occurred in order to allow us to reach the level of freedom that our LGBT communities enjoy today. The theme allows us to look back, reflect and plan the next steps for the advancements of LGBT equality,” he says.
“The Parade is always a very special moment for us during the Big Weekend, when thousands of people line the streets to show their support and join us in celebrating the community. It is really wonderful and heart-warming,” Fletcher adds.
Bringing their A-game
There are three stages during the Big Weekend and at the Thomas Cook Airlines USA Main Stage you can catch some UK exclusive performances. If you head over to the Gaydio Dance Arena you can dance the night away.
“We are always committed to bringing some of the best DJs to the Big Weekend, and this is where you can hear them.,” Fletcher tells us.
There is also the Sackville Boutique Stage, serving as an oasis amidst all the craziness.
“It is super chilled and a great place to go and just hang out for a while,” he says.
The Big Weekend will be closing with the Candlelit Vigil, where Sackville Gardens is turned into a sea of flickering candles as attendees take a minute to remember those lost to the HIV virus.
“This is the spiritual heart of Manchester Pride festival and there is a truly magical and moving atmosphere of quiet reflection.”
