Mall of Scandinavia

Admirers of Scandi cool now have more to do than they initially thought. A trendy shopping center gives those a spot to relax and shop while enjoying the best of the Scandinavian lifestyle. Expect designer boutiques, major high street brands, restaurants, cafés and more in a vast new temple to retail therapy.

A grand vision realized

The remarkable scale of the Mall of Scandinavia is one of the first things that wows visitors. 1,090,000 square feet of floor space is the headline figure; bigger than London’s Harrods. This area can accommodate 230 stores, many of which have stunning double-height facades, along with over 20 restaurants and a 15-screen multiplex cinema that incorporates the first IMAX screen in any Nordic country.

The Mall provides a natural home for many brands looking to make their mark in Sweden. J. Lindeburg, COS, & Other Stories, Björn Borg and Habitat are among those representing the home nation, while many other high street favorites will make their regional debut at Mall of Scandinavia. JD Sports, Nike, Oakley, Michael Kors and the Disney Store have all joined the Mall of Scandinavia to make their first forays into the Swedish market.

Other stores include Pandora, Superdry and Toys ‘R’ Us, guaranteeing that shoppers from every demographic are happy. A huge Starbucks provides plenty of space for visitors to enjoy a coffee break, while high-end restaurants always draw a large evening crowd. They also gain a lot of traffic from the Friends Arena next door, which serves as both the national football stadium and a venue for concerts and conferences.

The best of Scandinavian design

In an additional boost to Stockholm’s already formidable green credentials, the building’s design has been ranked as ‘excellent’ for sustainability by BREEAM, the world’s foremost environmental assessment. The mall’s developers, Unibail-Rodamco, have the best sustainability record in European real estate, and it’s clear they won’t be letting their standards drop any time soon. The entirety of the Mall of Scandinavia is divided into sections; earth, wind, water and fire. The aim is to help shoppers easily navigate the gargantuan complex, with thematic details indicating which section you are in. The glacier-inspired exterior was designed by Benoy Architects and BAU, while the interior comes courtesy of Windgårdh Architects. Even the 4000-capacity car park is designed to dazzle, with bright orange colonnades and stylish lighting.

The Designer Gallery is billed as a place where “fashion and lifestyle concept, art and music are combined in a dynamic environment”. Pursuing a more joined-up approach to retail than rows of separate shops, the Mall also provides visitors with a smattering of sofas and even fireplaces. In addition to serving a practical purpose as a place where shoppers can sit and rest their feet, it’s these relaxation areas create an intimate, welcoming ambiance that sets the mall apart from other large retail centers.
