Keeping it cool by the water in Dubai

Need an escape from the heat while in Dubai? Try dinner on a Dhow, enjoy a party on a yacht or one of many other great ways to cool down.

Dubai may have once been a desert, but there is no shortage of great water activities in and around the city. This coastal city has everything in abundance. On a hot summer’s day, head to a water park, take a cruise down Dubai Creek or hire out a party yacht. Here are some great ways to escape the heat without being cooped up in your hotel.

Watch the world’s largest dancing fountain

A first stop to cool things down when in Dubai is the magnificent fountain at Dubai Mall underneath the Burj Khalifa. This is the world’s largest dancing fountain and sprays up to 500 feet in the air. You can catch a water show each day so be sure to check out the schedule. This magical moving display is filled with lights at night, so strong they can be seen from out of space. You could in fact say it is impressive enough to be out of this world!

Dine on a Dhow river cruise

One experience you can’t miss when in Deira Creek, is to take a Dhow Cruise with a dinner and show included with North Tours. You will float around the creek while being fed and entertained with traditional dancing and music. It is a perfect way to see old and new Dubai, with brightly lit skyscrapers reaching up around you as you go. As a tip, the upper deck is open, meaning you get a nice view of the city and river, however if you are looking for air conditioning then the lower deck is usually best.

All across Dubai Creek and Deira you can line up at a water taxi station and discover the city, vintage-style. You can even order one to pick you up at a certain stop and hire one out for day if you want to go river sight-seeing. To cross the river from Deira to the other side it is only one AED, but expect to pay more if you upgrade to a fancier boat.
