1. The Hermitage Museum

3. A walk down Nevsky Prospekt
Whether it is on your list or not, chances are, you are going to tick it off anyway. This is the main street in St. Petersburg and it’s absolutely worth a spot on your bucket list. This huge boulevard cuts through the historical center of the city. It’s lined with palaces and architecturally satisfying buildings. You will find huge shopping centers, vintage style restaurants, magnificent public art and more. A walk down Nevsky Prospekt speaks for itself so forgo the metro and stretch those legs.
4. Peterhof Palace
The Peterhof Museum Complex was built to amaze and never falls short. With enough fountains to form an army and magnificent buildings that withstood wars. This is the place to be when looking to be awed. Although the area was almost completed destroyed in WWII, you won’t find much evidence of damage today. Everything has been rebuilt and now the buildings, scattered across five hundred hectares of territory, house over 20 museums. Come and see this ‘Russian Versailles’, home of Peter the Great.
5. Church on the Blood
You will certainly need a camera if you plan on remembering every detail of this magnificent church. But a trip here is something you could never possibly forget. Church on the Blood in St. Petersburg is decorated and designed in a way that stretches your imagination. It’ll have you contemplating it long after you leave its doors. Church of our Savior on the Spilled Blood, got its name from the bloodied ground it was built upon. Alexander II was assassinated on this very spot. Therefore, the Imperial Family and thousands of private donors funded the church to be built in his memory. It should definitely be on your list of things to do in St. Petersburg.
6. Getting snaps of ornate Russian Bridges
There are a couple of photo opportunities you need to take when in St. Petersburg. Get ready to flood your followers’ Instagrams with jealousy-inducing pics. There are so many bridges joining sections of the city that it has been called the ‘Venice of the North’. So wait for candy floss colored skies, and head out on an architectural hunt. You’ll soon fill your Facebook travel album with spectacular sites.
