One of the leading Amsterdam attractions and the perfect destination for lovers of flowers is the famous Keukenhof flower gardens.

Keukenhof Flower Gardens

Open each spring, Keukenhof is a beautiful show of millions of plants and flowers located just outside Amsterdam city.

The site of Keukenhof was originally used as a medieval hunting ground. The site takes its name from the time when the grounds were used to grow herbs for the kitchen (keuken) of the nearby castle. The first flower show was held in Keukenhof in 1949, and it has become a famous event in the Amsterdam calendar.
From 20 March to 18 May 2014, visitors to Amsterdam can explore the vast gardens of Keukenhof and see a stunning variety of tulips, daffodils, hyacinths and more.

Keukenhof flower gardens have a special theme each year. The theme for 2014 is ‘Holland’, with a focus on the most famous Holland flower, the tulip. Visitors to Keukenhof will be able to see an amazing floral mosaic of the buildings around Amsterdam’s canals made entirely from some 60,000 tulips. They can see art in the gardens, and exhibitions on the story of the tulip in Holland. The gardens also feature 30 plant and flower shows, with hundreds of growers exhibiting their most beautiful specimens.

It’s not just tulips at the 2014 Keukenhof, as pavilions within the gardens showcase a range of flowers. From 09 to 18 May the Willem Alexander Pavilion will host the world’s largest lily show, while the Beatrix Pavilion will have display an array of orchids. There will be a different floral show each week at the Oranje Nassau Pavilion, including roses, chrysanthemums and irises.

Keukenhof also has 7 unique gardens designed to inspire visitors to plant something new in their own back garden. Take inspiration from the likes of the Recycle Garden, Bee Happy Garden, Cookery Garden or even the Love Garden.

Take time from exploring Keukenhof on foot to relax on a so called ‘whisper boat’ and see the area around the gardens. If you feel energetic, hire a bike from the gardens and discover the beautiful countryside around this famous Amsterdam attraction.

On 03 May, the Flower Parade will visit Keukenhof along the ‘Keukenhof Corso Boulevard’. If you’ve purchased a ticket for Keukenhof for that day, you can leave the park to watch the parade and re-enter afterwards.

Keukenhof is close to our Park Inn by Radisson Amsterdam Airport Schiphol hotel. Our sophisticated Amsterdam hotel is just minutes away from Schiphol Amsterdam Airport and has easy access to the historic city centre.
