This time of year, Norway becomes a travel hotspot for keen adventurers eager for a glimpse of the Northern Lights. If you’re worried about the Scandinavian winter weather, we’ve got you covered. Today on the Park Inn blog, we’ve rounded up a few of our favourite rainy day activities in Oslo.
There’s something a little romantic about the mist and rain rolling in off the fjords, but sometimes it’s nice to have an indoor backup plan. Pack your umbrella and prepare for the ultimate rainy day adventure in Oslo!
Ski slope simulator
You can’t miss the towering Holmenkollen Ski Jump – it’s visible from just about anywhere in the capital – but did you know there’s also a ski simulator at the top of the slope? If you find yourself wondering what it might feel like to fly off the iconic jump, it’s well worth the 20 minute journey from city centre. The simulator takes around five minutes, so you can try it more than once – if you dare.
Warm up with cocoa on the go
There’s nothing better than a hot cup of cocoa to warm you up on a drizzly day. Keep toasty with a cup from Cocoa – on the go go. This quirky little cafe serves up more flavours of hot chocolate than you ever knew existed. Try the chilli-spiced cocoa with a slice of their decadent carrot cake for the perfect balance of sweet and savoury. Yum. What better way to fight the cold?
Immerse yourself in culture and heritage
Norway’s National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design boasts a brilliant collection of contemporary works, including one of the four original versions of Edward Munch’s famously disconcerting The Scream. If you’re after something a little more unique to Scandinavia, scout out the Kon Tiki museum. Perched on the edge of the peninsula, it exhibits famous boats from Norwegian expeditions around the world – and a life-sized statue of a whale shark!
Jazz in the evening at Blå
The only place to be after dark is Blå. A former diamond vault-turned-jazz bar alongside the river in Grunerløkka, Blå is home to Oslo’s underground music scene. The hotspot shuns commercial vibes and turns out great value cocktails that will keep you glued to your seat long after the performances are over.
Practise your golf swing
At our Park Inn by Radisson Oslo Airport, we know how frustrating it is to keep cooped up when all you want to do is get out and be active. Sometimes you need more than just treadmills and free weights – which is why we love our virtual golf simulator for blowing off steam. Take the opportunity to practise your swing so you’ll be ready to hit the green as soon as the sun comes back out.
