A historical little town with a large dose of Christmas spirit? No big city hustle in Leuven, just a charming romantic scene to wander around. Leuven is a gem of a town and usually undiscovered by the foreign traveler. The Belgian city’s world famous university makes you feel like you have stepped into Hogwarts.

You can pick and choose your favorite Winter Walk to guide you around town. And, If you get a little thirsty a long the way, drop into any one of the local pubs around the city.  A beer tour in a cozy pub is a great way to experience the flavors of the popping brewery scene. In the Evening, stroll through the 17th century-style Beguinages, an official UNESCO world heritage venue. Every winter, you can experience a candlelight walk through the houses, squares and parks of this romantic site.


There is also one special place in the city where you can get the best view of Leuven. Each Thursday until mid-January, climb the steps to the University library for an exclusive look out over the city center.  After conquering the bell tower, celebrate your victory with a local beer in one of the many cafés Leuven has to offer.
