Krakow has long been a center of culture in Poland – now the city is making considerable headway in the technology field too.

Krakow is home to an impressive number of large multinationals, including Google, IBM, Motorola, Hitachi and Delphi. It’s also one of the centers for the European Institute of Innovation and Technology. Foreign investment in “Europe’s Silicon Valley” reached a jaw-dropping $3.5 billion in 2005. On top of all this, Krakow is emerging as the world’s number one city for investment in global business process outsourcing projects, according to a UN Conference on Trade and Development. The number of local and foreign tech companies setting up shop in the city has made it a key business destination and a tech nerd’s paradise.

Now host to top annual business events, Krakow is catching the eye of the tech industry. With 10 trade fairs taking place every year, there’s something for everyone. We’ve highlighted some of the best conferences to geek out at.

Apple who?

If programming for Android operating systems is your thing, why not sign up to the popular KrakDroid conference? Organized by GDG Krakow and Hackerspace Krakow, this event hosted 200 tech types in 2012. Based on its initial success, we’re guessing even more will register to participate in the next, scheduled for 7 December.

Trendy talks

ClickMaster Poland will host the third edition of the Mobile Trends Conference from 16-17 January at our Park Inn by Radisson Krakow Hotel. It’s a great opportunity to listen and learn about mobile trends and technologies, featuring a program packed with speakers on diverse subjects like mobile banking and mobile marketing. A total of 22 international lecturers are set to speak, selected from top IT companies from around the world. With up to 400 people signed up to attend each day, this event is not to be missed by anyone seeking networking opportunities in the field.

Get funky

Throw your nerd hat on for this one – Lambda Days is a functional programming conference hosted by the Department of Computer Science at the AGH University of Science and Technology. An international program of speakers will present their papers at several venues in the department building from 27-28 February. Expect a quirky crowd of students, hackers, tech geeks and IT pros. This year’s event explores “building innovative, highly scalable, fault-tolerant applications.”

Clash of the business titans

Krakow’s Business Fashion and Technology conference on the 28 March is the first of its kind in Eastern Europe – and there’s still time to register as a speaker. Representatives of the fashion, business and technology industries will be in attendance to discuss the latest tech trends on the catwalk and in boutiques. ClickMaster is a partner in this one as well, so expect to learn how mobile tech is influencing the fashion world. The conference will also be hosting an exclusive fashion show.
